ART DEPARTMENT ENTRANCE

Extension and conversion to a Grade II listed building

Bedford School

The recently constructed entrance gallery for the art department at the school serves as a contemporary space for showcasing students' artwork. This area is designed to be bright and spacious, providing an ideal backdrop for the exhibition of both art and sculptures.

Being part of the school's listed buildings, the new Entrance Gallery was carefully designed to harmonize with the site's historical sensitivity. A sleek zinc roof with a minimal profile extends over an oak-framed glazed entrance screen and door.

Internally, adjustments were carefully made to optimize the gallery's openness and usability while maintaining a harmonious relationship with the existing building. To ensure ample natural light permeates the entire gallery, two asymmetrical skylights were incorporated. The previous entrance door opening has been transformed into an external display screen, suitable for showcasing larger art pieces.
