New build engineering centre on brown field site

Central Bedfordshire College

The 1600sqm constructed engineering centre, was designed for Central Bedfordshire College. Located to the south of Leighton Buzzard on the outskirts of an industrial estate, this facility offers specialised vocational education independent from the main campus in Dunstable.

Despite working within a constrained budget, the building was carefully designed.  Its rectangular layout, efficient space utilization, and straightforward architectural concept not only fulfilled the project requirements but also infused architectural interest, all while staying within budget constraints.

The main entrance lobby opens up to a spacious double-height foyer, leading to the main entrance, student café, and Learning Resource Centre. The ground floor is strategically organised with workshops surrounding a double-height display and assembly area at the rear. Moving to the first floor, classrooms occupy the building's perimeter, converging around an informal student breakout area in the centre.
