The project entailed a substantial extension and over-cladding of an existing 1960s building, transforming the original construction centre into a dynamic environment tailored for instructing students in modern construction methods.

To achieve net carbon zero in operation, the project incorporated solar PVs, water source heat pumps drawing from the nearby river, and a structure characterized by high insulation and air-tightness. The façade design features aluminium panels that, while ascending and stepping along the street front, derive their form and proportions from the existing building.

The newly added construction centre within the extension is a spacious, open-plan teaching area specifically designed for educating students on contemporary construction techniques. Internally, the spaces were reconfigured to offer a diverse range of teaching and learning environments.
